For the 5th year in a row, we have been an Official Photographer for National Family Portrait Month. Donating our time, talent and resources to a good cause, raising money for Make A Wish Foundation and giving families the chance to have beautiful portraits taken together.
This year’s theme is A Mother’s Love! So we are calling all mothers, grandmothers and even great grandmothers to get together with their families and create some amazing memories for a small registration fee of $51!
The full registration fee is donated directly to the Make A Wish Foundation of Australia. When registering, please nominate “Don Shiel Photography” as your photographer, plus the first 20 registrations will receive a $100 print credit to spend towards the purchase of prints from their portrait session.

What is National Family Portrait Month? National Family Portrait Month is held during the month of July 2021, and is a national fundraising effort throughout Australia and New Zealand, to help raise $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish charity. The photography session can be anytime up until the end of October.
Who is Make-A-Wish Australia? Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Their mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child – a quest sparked by the belief that a wish is integral to a child’s treatment.
Why participate in National Family Portrait Month? In addition to helping raise much-needed funds for Make-A-Wish, your family will have some precious family portraits created. You will also have the opportunity to purchase any photographs you may want for your home from the photography session. And because we know you will love your images, the first 20 registrations will receive a $100 print credit to spend towards the purchase of prints from their portrait session.
What does the $51 participation fee cover? Part of this project is that we will wave all of the usual session fees and the $51 is donated directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Australia. This fee also covers one image (if you choose) to appear in a beautiful, limited edition, coffee table magazine called “A Mothers Love.”
Can I have all the family photographed? Absolutely! We will be happy to photograph the whole family’s individual portraits at no extra cost if you would like to take full advantage of the photography session. The more people the merrier – bring the family pet!
Who is your photographer? Don of Don Shiel Photography will be your Photographer. He has been photographing families for 25 years! Don is a member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) Selected photographers around Australia and New Zealand have come together by making a donation to help raise funds for the charity, and are also donating their time and talent for this cause.
Can I purchase photographs? Yes, of course, we will give you the opportunity to purchase photographs. At your planning appointment (before the actual photography session) we’ll discuss all of our products and pricing with you to figure out what might suit you best. We’ll also get to find out more about you so we can make the BEST photos possible for you.
Will my photograph be in the magazine? Yes, all those who pay their participation fee and are photographed before October 30th 2021, will have the choice to be featured in the magazine.
Do I get to choose the photograph for the magazine? You will get to choose your top two photos. Then the graphic designer will choose the final photographs that go into the magazine. This is to ensure the magazine has balance and diversity between page layouts.
When will the magazine be published? We hope to have the magazine published before the end of the year.
How much will the magazine cost? The price of the magazine will depend on the total number of magazines ordered but will be around $85, depending on the number of participants.
Where can I buy the magazine? The magazine may be purchased online, or from participating photographers.
